What is nutrition?
Nutrition is the combination of macronutrients and micronutrients that is used as fuel for your body. When areas of our nutrition are not balanced our bodies do not run at their highest potential. This can lead to illness, disease, and a high dependence on prescription drugs.
Why is nutrition important?
Proper nutrition keeps us healthy, happy, and living longer. With the help of nutrition our bodies can combat cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and other significant illnesses. Nutrition also has a major effect on common conditions such as fatigue, migraines, athletics, weight gain, aging, bone health, and men’s/ women’s health.
What affects nutrition?
Biology- Everyone one is different which means that no two people have the exact same nutritional needs.
Age- Our nutritional needs change as we age. At age 20 and 30 our micronutrient needs vary greatly from our needs at age 50 and older.
Absorption- Your body’s ability to absorb certain vitamins and minerals ranges, which can result in deficiencies despite eating a balanced diet.
Lifestyle- Exercise (or lack thereof), prescription drugs, alcohol, and smoking all affect nutritional status.
